Infill development is the use of land within
a built-up area for further construction, focusing on the reuse and replacement
of obsolete or underutilized buildings and sites. Infill development presents
unique challenges to a construction company. What will be done with the obsolete
building's materials as it is demolished? Are there any asbestos issues to be
addressed? Is the existing water / sewer / power infrastructure sufficient to
support the new building's operations? How do you minimize and mitigate interruption
to the operations of neighboring businesses? This paper describes how general
contractor Bob Moore Construction addressed the challenges of demolition and subsequent
construction of major new facilities as part of an infill development program
and delivered a LEED Gold Certified project.

for building owners and occupants."
The green building
trend that has taken hold across the US in the past few years, and is surprisingly
evolving toward a whole new level. Whereas before when there were only a few green
real estate developments, today this trend in sustainable development has expanded
to whole communities and neighborhoods as well.
If
you were in favor of recycling In the 1970s you were probably seen as a wacko
liberal if anybody noticed you at all. But mention garbage today and most people
think of recycling right away, says Mike Buono, founder and owner of Environmental
Service Management Group, a N.J. company which figures out ways to repurpose construction
and demolition waste (C&D), generally at a cost savings, often at a profit.
The
insulating concrete forms (ICF) industry is rampant with inaccurate information.
Some have been passed along by industry members, while others represent simple
misunderstandings about the technology. Most of these misstatements are made by
persons that simply lack the appropriate knowledge behind the information. The
toughest part of researching ICFs is not finding the information, but sorting
through all of the inaccurate information.
